Care for your Rivo Monti

Everything your candle warmer lamp needs to glow beautifully for years — set-up, scent secrets, and simple fixes.

Three steps to your first glow

1
Place. Set your jar candle on the base, lid off. Any jar candle works — from a single wick to the big three-wick jars.
2
Set the height. Position the bulb 5–8 cm above the wax. Bigger jar? Lower the lamp. Smaller jar? Raise it.
3
Glow. Switch on, set the timer, and let the light do the work. No flame, no smoke — just scent and warmth.

The first melt matters most

On your first evening with a new candle, give it time to melt edge to edge — a full pool of liquid wax across the whole surface, usually around two hours. Wax has memory: a candle that pools fully on its first melt will melt evenly for the rest of its life, with no wasted wax clinging to the sides and no sunken tunnel around the wick.

If a previous evening left your candle tunnelled, the lamp is also the cure: lower it slightly, run a longer session, and let the warmth level the surface back out.

The secret to a candle that smells for months

Here's something most people never learn about warming candles: a flame burns away wax and fragrance together, but a warmer releases fragrance faster than the wax disappears. Run your lamp high and long enough, and you can end up with a jar of beautifully preserved wax that has quietly spent all its scent.

The fix is wonderfully simple:

Once the pool forms, ease off. Dim the lamp or raise it a notch. A gentle warmth keeps fragrance drifting for hours — high heat spends it in one evening.

Use the timer, not the clock. Two-to-four-hour sessions give you all the scent of an evening without warming the jar all day.

Let it rest. Like a good perfume, a candle smells strongest after a pause. Alternating between two candles keeps both lively.

Every candle has a sweet spot

Your candleLamp heightBrightness
Small jar / single wick (up to ~8cm wide)Raised — bulb 7–8cm above waxMedium
Standard jar (8–10cm)Middle — bulb 6–7cm above waxMedium–high
Large 3-wick jar (10cm+)Lowered — bulb 5–6cm above waxHigh until pooled, then dim
Tall narrow jarLowered as far as clearance allowsHigh until pooled, then dim

Rule of thumb: the wax should glisten, never smoke. If you see any haze rising, raise the lamp or dim it.

About your bulbs

Your lamp uses GU10 halogen bulbs (50W) — the twist-lock spotlight type, available in any hardware shop and online. A spare is included in your box, tucked in its own little home.

When to swap: if the melt slows noticeably or the light dims, the bulb is tiring. Switch off, let it cool for ten minutes, then twist out and twist in.

A halogen habit worth having: avoid touching the new bulb's glass with bare fingers — skin oils shorten its life. Use the linen cloth from your box.

Quick fixes

Wax isn't melting? Lower the lamp closer to the wax, raise the brightness to full, and give it 30 minutes. Large jars in cool rooms take a little longer to get going.

Melting too fast, scent fading? You're running warm — raise the lamp or dim it once the pool forms.

Tunnel forming? Lower the lamp slightly and run a longer session so the pool reaches the edges. Wax memory resets.

No scent from an older candle? If the wax level has barely dropped but the smell has gone, the fragrance is likely spent — it happens to every warmed candle eventually. Time for a fresh one; the old wax makes an excellent drawer-freshener.

Light flickers or won't come on? Check the bulb is seated firmly, try the spare, and check the dimmer isn't at its lowest stop. Still stuck? Email us — we'll make it right.
